(Report Courtesy of
James McCarthy, PRO):
The
Junior A footballers claimed the City Championship title after a
scintillating first half performance against Na Piarsaigh. Brian O’Sullivan
opened the scoring with a point, however Na Piarsaigh equalised immediately.
Patrickswell launched a rapid offensive and punished the Caherdavin men with
a devastating fifteen minute spell. Jack Kelleher struck a point before
Brian O’Sullivan rattled the net to put the ‘Well 1-2 to 0-1 ahead. Barry
Foley contributed two points to supplement points from Lar Considine and
Kevin O’Brien. The scoreboard displayed 1-6 to 0-1 when Kevin O’Brien
notched a decisive second goal and Tom O’Brien fired over. Patrickswell
eased off the throttle and Na Piarsaigh salvaged three points to trail by
2-7 to 0-4 at the interval.
Na Piarsaigh started the second half confidently and Patrickswell were under
pressure. Our opponents scored two points to narrow the deficit, although
Lar Considine claimed a point to establish an eight point margin at 2-8 to
0-6. Four unanswered points from Na Piarsaigh caused a few nerves, but Lar
Considine’s late point cemented the victory by 2-9 to 0-10. Well done to the
players and management for this great success. |
